John Geven is boardmember of the Foundation EC-VPL. He develops and manages educational and innovative projects in co-operation with enterprises in Europe. He is the manager of ROCKWOOL’s Company School located in Roermond, the Netherlands.

He has been linked to Validation of Prior Learning since it was introduced in the Netherlands in 2001 and has been appointed as a national VPL ambassador in 2004.

John invented a new form for VPL Professional Competence Assessment (PCA).  This is a form created especially for those who are not able to learn on a regular basis or have language problems like dyslexia. With this PCA, they get the opportunity to build their future. He integrated VPL into ROCKWOOL’s training and development policy and instituted a Human Resource Management strategy that incorporates both summative as well as formative VPL processes. These processes aim at enhancing employee ánd employers performance.

He accepted the European VPL prize 2013 on behalf of ROCKWOOL for the best work-based competence development and recognition category in Brussels, Belgium in 2013.  Furthermore, he accepted the Global VPL prize 2014 on behalf of ROCKWOOL during the VPL Biennale in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

John is chairman of the Regional Advice Commission for Process Industry for the southern part of the Netherlands. This organization gathers information from companies. Besides this, he organizes meetings with companies for information exchange on VPL, LLL and novelties in the education.
